What car-crash-proof people would look like

July 23rd, 2016  |  Auto

No, that isn’t a prop from a science fiction body horror film, that’s Graham, a project made to represent what human beings would look like if they evolved to survive high-speed car collisions.

Since cars are relatively new to human life it’s no surprise that surviving high speed crashes unscathed is hard for us. Human life is a lot different now than it was when our bodies developed to become what they are today. The amount of energy in a car collision is way too high for us to handle. That’s why cars are designed to crumple and direct that energy away from those inside.

Gizmodo reports Graham was designed to further mitigate the high energy forces of a collision. Thicker skin, stronger bones, and squishier padding all help to make Graham’s body less susceptible to crash damage. The project was made to highlight the importance of road safety, especially since we’re a long ways off to developing natural protection against collisions.
