Trump Hotel guests among those affected by credit card information theft

July 13th, 2017  |  Canadian Business

Not for the first time, Trump Hotels have been hacked and the credit card information of their guests compromised. 14 hotels have been affected by the latest security breach, including the Trump Hotel in Toronto. Hotels in other cities affected included Vancouver, New York, and Washington.

This most recent cyberattack comes less than a year after Trump International Hotels paid $50,000 (U.S.) in penalties to the state of New York for failing to immediately inform customers after data breaches in 2015 led to more than 70,000 credit card numbers and 300 U.S. Social Security numbers being compromised. As a result of the settlement, the company agreed to update its security practices.

According to a statement made on the Trump Hotel website, those whose credit cards were compromised booked rooms between August 2016 and March 2017. The attack was made on the systems of Sabre Hospitality Solutions, which facilitates the booking of rooms at Trump Hotels.

“This incident occurred on the systems of Sabre Hospitality Solutions, a service provider used by Trump Hotels. It did not affect Trump Hotels’ systems,” read the statement made on Trump Hotels website. “The privacy and protection of our guests’ information is a matter we take very seriously, and we recommend that affected guests review the information in this letter for some steps they can take to protect themselves against potential misuse of their information."
