Trip Ideas for Canadians Travelling on a Low Loonie

January 30th, 2016  |  Canadian Business

The wind is bitter and the snow is mounting. Too bad the weak loonie forced many Canadians to decide against a winter getaway this year. Fortunately, Travelzoo didn’t give up. It scoped out destinations and discovered that Canadian travellers can still afford an out-of-country trip in 2016.

Travelzoo conducted some thorough research before compiling its list of the top five travel destinations for Canadians. The global media commerce company considered exchange rates, economics, and general travel trends.

While trips to the United States or to England are no longer budget-friendly for Canadians, trips to other international locations certainly are. According to the Financial Post, Travelzoo recently updated its list of affordable and adventurous travel destinations. Iceland, China, Poland, Rio de Janeiro, and Dominican Republic all made the list.

A number of different variables make these destinations affordable. In some cases, its a favourable exchange rate or a high supply of hotel rooms. In others, it’s an increase in available flights or the addition of discount airlines.

Whatever the mix of factors, this is definitely good news for travellers.
