Toronto’s first real snowfall is on its way

December 10th, 2017  |  Canadian Business

Thanks to our neighbors to the west, the city of Toronto is set to expect it’s first real snowfall. Winter is truly upon us.

"An Alberta Clipper low pressure area will sail across Southern Ontario tonight into Tuesday. This weather disturbance will bring a general snowfall of 5 to 10 cm with it by Tuesday morning," Environment Canada said on its website. "Poor winter driving conditions are likely. Untreated roads may become snow covered and slippery."

The high for Monday is -2 C, and then temperatures will drop slightly heading into Tuesday, with a high of -4 C.

Last month, the first sign of winter hit and proved problematic for some motorists. Police and highway safety officials alike warned drivers to remain extra cautious and alert on the roads when conditions begin to shift.

"Just take a breath. Slow it down. Because when the weather changes, you have to change your driving habits as well,” said Const. Clint Stibbe.

The OPP also warned drivers to take their time and stay safe out there on the roads.

"Most of the time, the collisions we experience are single-vehicle collisions, drivers taking on ramps and off ramps too fast or possibly following too close," said Sgt. Kerry Schmidt, with the OPP's highway safety division. "It really comes down the driver being alert and attentive."

From your friends here at HUB Insurance Hunter, please drive carefully and keep yourself and others safe out there on the roads.
