The Tesla Model 3 is a Beautiful Car
Yesterday the Tesla Model 3 rolled silently onto the world stage, and I think I (along with the rest of the rational world) am in love.
Last night Elon Musk proved that the Model 3 is exactly what the company needed to evolve from what was essentially a boutique luxury carmaker to the beginnings of a real automotive manufacturer. In just 24 hours Tesla is poised to make more money from the Model 3 than their higher end vehicles have brought in over the past decade. It has taken them some time, but with this new car Tesla is finally looking ready to compete with the big boys.
During the unveiling we learned more about the much-rumoured vehicles confirming some and clarifying others. While there will be trim levels, Musk pointed out that even the base Model 3 will come standard with all-wheel drive and Autopilot safety features. What that means is that the Model 3 will offer buyers the same autonomous experience as the higher end models. And just like the Model S and Model X, you will be able to unlock “convenience” features like autonomous cruise control and self-park.
According to Driving.ca the company plans on doubling the amounts of stores as well as superchargers worldwide on top of the potentially exponential increase in demand. Getting the launch of the Model 3 right is expected to be a major test for the company, who has a history of delays and struggles when it comes to meeting demand.
It won’t be easy, but the payoff will be huge if they do it right. While there’s no doubt Elon Musk is looking to bring his company a profit, he can already be proud of the way he has managed to shift the national interest in alternative power vehicles in such a short period of time.
The Model 3 is available to reserve for US$1,000 right now and is set to be available near the end of 2017.
