Student Driver Crashes Into Driving School, Fails Test

October 17th, 2015  |  Canadian Business

A student driver learned the difference between gas and brake after crashing her car through a driving school’s storefront on Friday.

A young woman was nearing the end of her driver’s test when she made the mistake.

"Unfortunately, that student mistook the gas pedal for the brake, sending the car into the building," Seth Tyler of the Bellevue Police stated.

"She was doing great up until that very last part ... [and she] did drive through a plate glass window, so that was a fail on the test," Tyler noted.

Police responded to the scene in Bellevue, Washington, after receiving a call about the driving lesson gone wrong that morning. No injuries were reported at the time.

Damages to the building are primarily cosmetic but the car may require more extensive repairs.

While some insurance companies offer discounts for new drivers with lessons, it’s not entirely clear if that would still apply after a collision.

Tyler stated that while she did fail her test, it was likely she would be able to try again.  "Hopefully she can get more instruction and a chance to retest," he said.
