Self-Driving Carmakers Promise to Take Full Responsibility for Crashes

October 10th, 2015  |  Canadian Business

Self-driving cars are so safe that car manufacturers are now offering to take full responsibility in the event of a collision.

Volvo CEO, Håkan Samuelsson, stated that his company will “accept full liability” in the event a crash took place while the vehicle was in “autonomous mode”.

Samuelsson is just the latest to offer his guarantee; both Google and Mercedes-Benz have made similar claims for their own vehicles.

While the question remains how self-driving cars will perform in real-life situations, the auto insurance industry is already envisioning how this will impact policies and premiums.

Google is set to release their first self-driving car next year and Volvo has promised delivery of their version by 2017.
