President’s Choice selling PC Financial to CIBC

August 15th, 2017  |  Canadian Business

After offering banking services for almost 20 years, President’s choice has made the decision to sell PC Financial to CIBC, who they had worked in collaboration with over the past two decades.

"We are excited about the future and our ability to create new products to serve Canadians," PC Financial spokesperson Lana Gogas said in a statement. "Today marks the start of an exciting new chapter for PC Financial, including continued strength in payments and loyalty through our PC Financial Mastercard products."

PC says that new products are in development and that they will continue to focus on their popular loyalty program to "to further improve our customer experience."

"At the moment, our focus is on ensuring a smooth and seamless transition for our customers; tomorrow, our focus will be ensuring our future is as innovative as our past," Gogas said.

President’s Choice will still retain its loyalty program, and continue to offer credit cards, however CIBC will be taking over all daily banking practices (checkings, savings, loans, etc). CIBC is planning on rebranding the bank as Simplii, and promises that there will be no changes or disruptions to customer accounts during the transition.

"Our focus in the near term is to make this a seamless transition over for our clients,” said Mike Boluch, executive vice-president of direct banking at CIBC. “Over time, we're going to invest in the offer. We at CIBC have a long history of being known for innovation."
