Prepare Your Children For Their First Solo Trip

January 1st, 2016  |  Canadian Business

Parents are always a little nervous about letting their children take a trip without them for the first time. Even if their children are 18 or older and travelling with a group of friends. So the Toronto Star put together a list of the actions parents need to take to ensure their children’s first solo vacation is safe and enriching.

To begin, you need to encourage your kids to research the destination. What’s the culture like? What are the living standards like? What are the local laws? Aside from simply Googling each of these questions, advise the young trip-goers to get in touch with a travel agent.

A travel agent will aid the research process and then help everyone get their travel documents ready. A travel agent can also help your children acquire travel insurance -- if they are travelling without you, you’ll want to know they at least have the right coverage in the event of an emergency.

Lastly, make plans for staying in contact with your child. Establish how often he or she should email, message, or call you. If necessary, your child may need to pack a phone adapter or get an international roaming package. Above all else, just make sure you know how to get in touch.
