PEI Peacock Finally Caught After Six Week Spree

September 14th, 2015  |  Canadian Business

Tango, the peacock, has finally been returned to his P.E.I. home after a six week spree on the run.

Kevin Cook was able to catch his pet with a cage near Summerside after chasing the wayward bird for the better part of the summer.

After Tango’s escape in late July, Cook did everything he could think of to recapture his pet. He set traps, used pre-recorded peacock calls, and even bought another bird to lure Tango home but none of it worked.

It was only after Tango wandered into a trap watched by Cook and his son that they were able to corner their colourful pet before he absconded again.

On the peacock’s escape, Cook said: "He loved his freedom, I will say that. He was one of those rogue peacocks … capture was not what he wanted. But, you never know, he might get used to the other guys and he'll be happy."

Home insurance can cover damages inflicted by pets like Tango as long as the proper coverage is purchased. Pet owners are urged to call their insurer to ensure they are protected against such an event.
