Nissan Sponsors Cheapest Racing Car Series in the World

August 25th, 2015  |  Canadian Business

The Nissan Micra Cup, a series of race events held over the summer months, has been a roaring success. Drivers from across Canada and all around the world came out to participate in the event billed as the cheapest racing series in the world.

Designed as a way to promote Nissan’s reinvented Micra, the races wowed crowds with bumper car-like bangs, two wheeled turns, and some good ol’ fashion paint trading. Crashes were common and all proper steps were taken when reporting a collision.

Beginning at a base price under $10,000, these Nissan Micras were outfitted with another $10,000 in extras to race, complete with safety roll cage, racing suspension, and performance tires.

The race teams were allowed to fine-tune the suspension settings and tire pressures to perfect driving performance but nothing else. Racers were allowed no other alterations; the 1.6L 4-cylinder engines and 5-speed manual transmissions were locked down and the weight limit was closely watched.

There are 5 racing weekend events hosted across Quebec. The races are running from May to September and each event will include a 30-minute trial, a 30-minute qualifying session, and two 30-minute races.
