New Tech Makes Old Cars New Again

August 15th, 2015  |  Auto

Aftermarket auto technology is now giving Canadians more options than ever to make their old car new again. Drivers no longer need to pay off their current car before enjoying the latest and greatest that technology has to offer, they just go to the store and buy it themselves.

That “check engine” light has long been the bane of car owners everywhere, signifying anything from a small maintenance issue to imminent disaster. Without the intervention of someone with the proper diagnostic equipment, drivers were left with nothing more than their best guess as to why their car is complaining.

Drivers now have the option of buying a portable scanner that can receive reports on a car’s health. They can be bought for under a $100 and help auto owners determine the problem without always having to head to a garage.

While many newer vehicles come with remote-start technology, drivers with older cars were left paying top dollar for a traditional key fob design. Now, there is the choice to start a car with a smartphone. ViperSmartStart gives drivers the power to remote start, lock and unlock, and track their car in crowded parking lots. Insurance companies have taken an interest in these kinds of anti-theft technology and often offer discounts on auto insurance.

And finally, heads up display is coming to cars everywhere. The company Navdy is putting out a heads-up display for those wishing to have information available hands-free. The device will project images onto the windshield so people can safely view things like cell-phone texts and gps directions. It also allows for driver’s to direct their smartphone to compose a messages. It’s slated for release later this year.

Auto technology is evolving faster than most people can keep up with and Canadians now can indulge their inner geek without breaking the bank.
