New Study Says Driving School Increases Teen Collisions

April 1st, 2016  |  Auto

You’d probably never guess this, but teaching teens advanced driving skills actually puts them at greater risk of getting into a collision than if they just learned the basics.

According to Driving.ca a study conducted by the International Road Federation found that collision rates amoung teen drivers spiked when they were taught emergency driving skills such as skid control. In Oregon, such training was found to double the chances of a young driver being in a collision.

These seemingly nonsensical results start to make sense only when you think back to your own days as a teenager. I don’t know about you, but most teens simply don’t have the life experience to be able to assess when a situation is actually too dangerous or not. They may see the danger, but still not feel that they are really at risk. This is why so many teenagers overdo it when they’re drinking or think that they are capable of handling any situation the road will throw at them because they have training.

So instead of putting your teen through advanced driver training, teach them how to recognize dangerous situations and avoid them with caution.
