Millions more vehicles recalled due to Takata airbags

It seems like there is no end to the number of defective airbags Takata has manufactured over the years. With the latest round of announced recalls, the number of affected vehicles approaches 70 million.

According to the Financial Post, there’s no total count for how many vehicles are being recalled in Canada, but some automakers have announced the size of their recalls. Fiat Chrysler leads the way with 400,000 vehicles; Subaru Canada will recall about 11,000; Mazda Canada will recall 7,283; Mitsubishi Canada will recall 6,110; and Nissan will recall about 3,000.

There have yet to be any incidents relating to the defective airbags as the defect is caused by high humidity. This the malfunction a low risk in Canada. Worldwide, the defective airbags have been responsible for the deaths of 13 people and the injuries of more than 100 people.

Takata faces several class-action lawsuits as well as safety fines and a criminal investigation in the U.S. THey are currently seeking a bailout.
