IBC reports Prairies storm damage in July over $48M

August 17th, 2016  |  News

Last month a series of storms wreaked havoc across the prairies, causing over $48 million in insured damage according to the Insurance Bureau of Canada.

The thunderstorms, which occurred between July 8 and July 11, created strong winds and floods, especially in Saskatchewan. According to Global News, the province received downpours up to 130mm deep, which flooded the city of Estevan, leaving sewers backed up and streets completely underwater.

An IBC vice president said that storms are happening more often and with greater intensity across the Prairies than before. That means it’s as important as ever to make sure your home is well prepared and that your insurance coverage is up to date.
