Hotly Contested Title "Longest Lobster Roll" Still Not Settled
Charlottetown, PEI made news this weekend with the unveiling of the world’s longest lobster roll at their International Shellfish Festival event held every year.
Coming in at 79 feet, 1 inch, festival organizers felt the World’s Longest Lobster Roll was worth a call to the Guinness Book of World Records and are now awaiting final judgment on their claim to fame.
Visitors from all over Canada and the United States, most assuredly armed with proper travel health insurance for that "just in case" seafood-related illness, patiently waited their turn to get a piece of the lobster roll beast.
But the town of Shediac, New Brunswick, is not taking this lobster roll insult lying down.
As the holders of the esteemed 2014 longest lobster roll title at 72 feet, 4 inches, Shediac admits the Charlottetown entry beat that but there’s a new lobster roll in town and it came in at 85 feet, 6 inches.
Shediac unveiled their own 85 foot lobster roll monster at their Lobster Festival held this July and they haven’t been shy about putting Charlottetown in their place.
Twitter wars with politely contradicting headlines have been seen all over the internet and as the war heats up, the lobster claws will eventually come out.
“I am happy to see a rivalry between two maritime communities,” Pierre Cormier president of the Chamber of Commerce in Shediac, said of the conflict. “It’s good for the industry and supports many communities in the maritimes.”
People remain skeptical about the good cheer as CBC reported that Shediac's Lobster Festival President "quickly reached out" to his Charlottetown counterparts. Until more is known, everyone is still playing nice.
