Honda Civic Wins North American Car of the Year Title

January 10th, 2016  |  Canadian Business

Early on Monday morning the North American International Auto Show named the 2016 Honda Civic as the North American Car of the Year. In December, the automaker also picked up eight Top Safety Pick+ awards and one Top Safety Pick award. Looks like Honda is taking home a lot of honours lately.

About 55 auto journalists from Canada and the United States cast their votes and named the Honda Civic as Car of the Year. The Globe and Mail says cars must be entirely new or majorly revamped to qualify for the title.

While the win is certainly great exposure for Honda, it’s worth noting that the Honda Civic has made a couple less desirable lists as well. Honda Civic models have made the Insurance Bureau of Canada’s Top 10 Stolen Vehicles list in 2012, 2013, and 2014. No Honda vehicles made the list in 2015.

Other honours were bestowed at the Auto Show. For example, the Volvo XC90 won the North American Truck/Utility Vehicle of the Year.
