GM Boosts its Autonomous Development with New Acquisition

March 16th, 2016  |  Auto

Staying competitive in the modern business world is pretty tough if a company doesn’t stay constantly innovative. When it comes to innovation in the auto industry nobody does it better than Tesla right now, but that isn’t stopping veterans like General Motors from stepping up to compete.

One of the industry’s latest big races is to see who can develop the best autonomous car first. Tesla is leading the way with its suite of driver assist features and Google is making huge strides with their self-driving cars despite the occasional bump in the road. However they aren’t the only ones developing that technology.

Cruise Automation, a San Francisco-based developer who has been working on autonomous driving for 3 years was bought by General Motors for an undisclosed amount last week as reported by Canadian Underwriter.

While GM has not announced a specific timeframe for rolling out driverless capability, one can be sure acquiring Cruise will help speed up their development which means we may see a wide variety of cars driving themselves sooner rather than later.
