Eddie Bauer shoppers, hackers might have your payment card info

August 30th, 2016  |  Personal Finance

Customers of outerwear store Eddie Bauer are being told to take a close look at recent account statements after a security flaw left thousands of customers payment data vulnerable to hackers who infected the company’s point of sale system.

CBC reports that the infection occurred on various dates between Jan. 2 and Jul 17. While online purchases were completely unaffected, anyone who made an in-store purchase or return in that time frame should make sure there hasn’t been any suspicious activity on their cards.

Luckily, the hack did not result in every payment card’s information being hacked. Eddie Bauer is offering free ID protection services to everyone who could be have been affected. They are also contacting those who they think were most likely compromised.

The CEO of Eddie Bauer assured customers (and investors) that the vulnerability has been identified and fixed, so there’s no reason to worry about the same thing happening again.
