A driver gave change to a panhandler, got a $175 ticket in return

June 11th, 2016  |  Auto

When Regina driver Dane Rusk saw a man standing by the side of the road with a cardboard sign, he came to the same conclusion most people would: that man is likely homeless and struggling to survive. Turns out he was quite wrong.

The man was not only not broke or homeless, but a police officer who then ticketed him for not wearing a seatbelt. Of course, the reason he wasn’t wearing one was to lean over and give the undercover cop some change. According to CTV News, the ticket cost Dane $175, who probably decided not to fight the charge and turn an inconvenient situation into a bigger problem.

These police tactics are designed to catch distracted drivers unawares. WIth distracted driving becoming a larger and larger risk every year, law enforcement is doing everything they can to make sure you keep your eyes on the road. It’s an effort most will surely appreciate, however for Dane Rusk, he would probably appreciate it more if they didn’t take advantage of his kind nature to do it.
