Chevy Bolt reveals 383 km driving range

September 21st, 2016  |  Auto

As far as electric vehicles (EV) go, Tesla has been the coolest player in the game for the last few years. One of their big selling points have been just how much further one could drive their cars on a single charge than other EVs. Well Chevy caught up and may take the lead for affordable EVs.

Chevrolet announced that the Bolt’s official EPA-rated driving range is 238 miles (383 km). According to Mashable, the US$37,500 electric car will soon be available at Chevy dealerships “later this year.”

The Bolt may not have the highest range of any EV in the world, but considering its closest competition is either more than twice as expensive or at least a year away, the car is poised to take an early lead in the mainstream electric car market. The hybrid Chevy Volt, which has been out for several years has matured into one of the more popular selling plug-in cars on the market and the Bolt will now have both brand recognition and range advantage on its side when its main competitor, the Tesla Model 3 releases in the next couple of years.

Elon Musk has stated that the Model 3 is aiming for at least 215 miles of range, which means it may still deliver more when it comes out, but then again by the time it comes out we’ll likely be seeing a 2018 model Bolt.
