Calgary Insurer Will Leverage Telematics to Train New Drivers

January 26th, 2016  |  Canadian Business

One Alberta-based insurer is jumping on global trends in safety technology. InsureMy Ltd. announced that it will be rolling out a road safety program for new drivers this year.

Leveraging telematics, the Calgary insurer is launching a driver training initiative aimed at teen drivers and their parents. Car owners just need to install a telematics device and then new drivers can monitor (and learn from) their driving performance. They’ll be able to track everything from their speeding to their cornering.

According to InsureMy’s recent press release, its New Drivers Intelligence (NDI) program will be available in Ontario and Alberta.

But how will the NDI program help inexperienced drivers? InsureMy is confident that the telematics data will give drivers the feedback they need to correct their mistakes and develop safe driving habits.

Of course, the program will mainly be targeting parents with teenage children. When their kids start taking solo trips in the family car, parents have a couple things to worry about: their kids and their vehicle. The ability to collect information about a driver’s performance will, ideally, help protect both.
