July 9th, 2016  |  Auto

Yet another major car brand is working with high-profile tech companies. This time BMW, Intel, and Mobileye are joining forces to bring driverless cars to consumers by 2021.

The three companies announced their partnership earlier this month at a BMW press conference. With Intel being the world’s largest manufacturer of computer processors and Mobileye specializing in cameras and software for vehicles, the German automaker is definitely entering the autonomous arena with good allies in its corner.

The autonomous driving sector weathered its first setback earlier this week when details of a crash involving a Tesla Model S came out confirming that the car was in Autopilot mode at the time of the collision.

BMw, Intel, and Mobileye aren’t expecting autonomous technology to be perfected in the near future. The three companies promised to deliver a fully autonomous vehicle by 2021 in order to make sure that the hardware and software are as close to infallible as they can possibly be.

Other major partnerships this year include General Motors and Lyft, Toyota and Uber, and Chinese ride-sharing company Didi Chuxing and Apple.
