belairdirect and BCAA top insurers in Canada: Study

June 15th, 2016  |  News

J.D. Power has released the results of its 2016 Canadian Home Insurance Study, and Canadians have chosen belairdirect and BCAA as the best insurance companies in Eastern and Western Canada respectively.

The study assessed the responses of over 7,000 home insurance customers across Canada. Those surveyed provided their satisfaction levels with their insurer in a variety of categories. According to their press release, the survey weighed five categories including (in order of importance) non-claim interaction; policy offerings; price; billing and payment; and claims.

J.D. Power then assigned a customer satisfaction level based on an 1000-point scale. Out of 1000 points belairdirect got 799 in the Atlantic/Region. The runners-up were The Co-operators with 796 and Intact Insurance with 791.

In Quebec, the runners-up were Promutuel and Desjardins, Intact, and La Capitale tying for third.

In Western Canada, BCAA beat out the Alberta Motor Association and The Co-operators. Having suffered some major weather disasters over the last several years, the west has seen customer satisfaction trend downwards. This year isn’t being any kinder to the region as the Fort McMurray wildfire has caused what is likely the costliest natural disaster for insurers in the country’s history.
