B.C. to reveal future of ride-sharing in fall

August 3rd, 2016  |  Auto

Ontario, Quebec, and Alberta have all worked hard to bring some sort of control and structure to the budding ride-sharing market in this country. On the other hand, B.C. has been content to take its time, despite Vancouver being one of Canada’s top cities to live. Now, it seems the province is committing to regulating ride-sharing by early next year.

The Province reported that the government will reveal its proposed future for Uber and other ride-sharing companies in September. The company has been banned in the province for some time, but a review team headed up by cabinet minister Peter Fassbender has been gathering data and opinions from the public, taxi industry, insurance industry, and Uber in order to come to a well informed decision on how to handle the ride-sharing situation.

While they will release proposed legislation in September, there will still be work to do and changes to make to the plan before it goes to vote.of main concern to the government is safety for consumers and fair competition with traditional taxis.
