Back to the Future Golf Cart Makes a Big Splash

October 14th, 2015  |  Canadian Business

Golf has a new cart in town and it’s not your average ride.

Two car buffs from Red Deer, David Heykants and Luke Evanochko, recreated a standard golf cart as the famous time-travelling DeLorean from 1985’s Back to the Future for a college fundraiser.

While the cart doesn’t reinvent the rules quantum mechanics, it does sport a Mr. Fusion cup dispenser and cooler.

Buttons on the console bring the movie to life with Marty, Biff, and Emett Brown audio clips and lighting effects.

"It could be either Marty talking or Emmett Brown or even Biff, so they're all very humorous," Heykants said.

Heykants runs a custom auto business, Dual Divisions, in Red Deer and got involved with the project after a local college asked for his assistance.

Heykants and Evanochko both worked on the cart and spent about 600 hundred hours bringing their vision to life.

"To take the raw material and develop it into something that looks like this, yeah it was a challenge," he said.

"And there was a lot of hours and a lot of stress involved but we came through the other end, I think successfully."

The college used thecart as part of a golf event that raised money for their Athletic Leadership Fund, a fund that benefits student athletes.
