Average house price climbs 15% in March

April 17th, 2016  |  Canadian Business

The country has seen the busiest and priciest March for real estate it ever has with average prices climbing to $508,567 last month.

According to CBC that’s a price increase of 15.7% over the same month last year. Prices weren’t the only thing going up thouh. Last month also marked the busiest March on record for sales activity. The Canadian Real Estate Association reported 45,137 homes were sold through the Multiple Listing Service last month, a 12.2% increase over last year.

Many economists are beginning to say that the national price average has lost meaning given how inflated it is by prices in Toronto and Vancouver. Iff the two hottest markets in the country are left out of calculations the national average price comes out to a much more reasonable sounding $366,950. At this point it’s possible that special regulations or rules may need to be put in place for those markets to lessen demand. As things stand, prices are expected to continue increasing at a strong pace with nothing in particular to slow them down.
