Automatic Braking to be Standard Feature by 2022

March 17th, 2016  |  Auto

Computers are slowly but surely taking over… our cars that is. While fully automated vehicles are still aways off, cars with some automated features are proving popular, from assisted parking to automated emergency braking (AEB), the technology is booming.

There are plenty of benefits for automated driving, primarily safety and convenience. But the technology has remained firmly on the fringes of the market. However, it won’t be long until that isn’t the case anymore as automakers and the government have reportedly reached an agreement to make automatic emergency brakes standard equipment on the majority of passenger vehicles.

Here is the full list of companies involved: BMW, Fiat Chrysler Automobiles, Ford, General Motors, Honda, Hyundai, Jaguar Land Rover, Kia, Mazda, Mercedes-Benz, Mitsubishi, Nissan, Subaru, Tesla, Toyota, Volkswagen, and Volvo.

Note that this will include all brands that fall under each manufacturer’s umbrella.

Transportation experts say that the widespread adoption of this technology will eliminate hundreds of thousands of collisions across North America and save thousands of lives.

We can only wait and see if auto insurance premiums decrease as advanced safety features become standard.
