January 2nd, 2016  |  Canadian Business

With the Summer Olympics, Oktoberfest, and Super Bowl 50 all scheduled for 2016, Canadians are booking days off, checking their travel coverage, and gearing up for exciting trips. Here’s a quick peek at events from across the globe that are going to attract tourists in droves.

First up are the big sporting events of 2016. Global News reports that the Super Bowl 50 will be held in San Francisco starting on January 30. The city will be home to a number of pre-game events that are sure to ramp up football fans for February’s big game. Then, much later in the year, Rio De Janeiro is hosting the Summer Olympics in August. The exciting two-week event will bring passionate fans from all across the world to Brazil.

Other major events that will draw massive crowds include Germany’s 500th annual Oktoberfest and Pope Francis’ Holy Year of Mercy -- Rome should expect millions of pilgrims from now up until November.

This is just a taste of some of the events that Canadians and other world travellers will be adding to their calendars. Although all of these events are sure to be incredible, don’t forget to be cautious. Global events attract lots of people and lots of risks. Make sure you keep safety in mind as you travel to these destinations.
