Annual Santa Claus Parade means road closures this weekend in Toronto

November 17th, 2017  |  News

It’s that time of year again, which means it’s time for the annual Toronto Santa Clause Parade. The parade and similar activities around the city this weekend means that there will be some road closures to watch out for.

On Saturday the free community concert “Holiday Magic” will result in the closure of Cumberland Street between Old York Lane and Bellair Street between 2:30pm and 8:30pm.

The main events on Sunday include the parade itself and the Holly Jolly run. Bremner Boulevard between York Street and Lake Shore Boulevard West will be shut down between 8am and 2pm for the run.

For parade set up, Bloor Street between Christie Street and Ossington Avenue will be closed between 5am on Sunday morning and remain so until 5pm that evening.

As for the parade route, University Avenue from Bloor to Wellington Streets West, Wellington between University and Yonge Streets, Yonge between Wellington and Front Streets, and Front between Yonge and Jarvis Streets will all be affected from 12:30 p.m. to 4 p.m. Additional closures in areas around the parade route over the course of the day can be found on the parade map.

There are also two other closures to note, unrelated to the holiday festivities that will be kicking off Saturday and Sunday. One is the closure of the Osgoode subway station as the upgrades to Presto enabled turnstiles continues, the station will be closed all weekend. The other is the closure of Allen Road between Eglinton Avenue West and Sheppard Avenue West due to roadwork; the road will be close from Friday at midnight through to 10 a.m. on Sunday.

If you don’t have to go out this weekend, it may be best to just stay at home and enjoy a good book, or a Netflix marathon. Or, since the annual Santa Claus Parade means that old man winter is just around the corner, this might be a good weekend to put up your holiday lights and start preparing your home for the colder months ahead.
