You Don’t Need to Break the Bank This Valentine’s Day

February 12th, 2015  |  Insurance

Valentine’s Day is the day of love, when you spend time appreciating that special someone in your life. It can also become quite costly. Between flowers, gifts, and a night out on the town, it’s pretty easy to break the bank trying to give your sweetheart a Valentine’s to remember. But there’s no reason why a special Valentine’s Day has to leave you in the poor house. Here are some suggestions for some frugal ways you can enjoy the day of love.

Cook Dinner Together

There’s something to be said for sharing experiences, and especially for learning a new skill together. Why not use Valentine’s as an excuse to try out that new recipe you’ve been meaning to test? Bonus points for cooking the meal together. After all, a meal prepared with love and the time you’ll spend together will probably taste much better than anything you could ever buy in a five star restaurant.

Plan a Netflix (or Shomi or Crave) Night

Guys, here’s a little secret: one of the most romantic things that you can do for your lady won’t cost a dime. Do we have your attention? Okay, here it is: let her have control of the remote. Spend the evening snuggling on the couch, and let her choose your movie for the night. Yes, you might have to sit through a romantic comedy, but hey, it’s Valentine’s!

Tour Your Own City

Don’t have the money to whisk your partner away for a romantic weekend? Then why not act as tourists in your own city? Take in the sites together, or go skating or hiking. There are always lots of free or low cost activities going on in your very own city. Spend some time online perusing to see what you can come up with!

Take a Walk Down Memory Lane

There is nothing more romantic than reminiscing about your past and recognizing the time you have spent together. So why not take a trip down memory lane this Valentine’s? Re-visit the restaurant where you had your first date, rent the first movie you ever saw together or go for a walk to the spot where you got engaged.

While Valentine’s Day can be expensive, there is no reason why it has to be. With a little bit of foresight, thought and planning, Valentine’s Day 2015 can be your best one yet, without making a dent in your pocketbook.
