The Worst Insurance Nightmares in Christmas Movies
When we think of Christmas movies, we often zero in on heart-warming tales of love and laughter. We don’t often think of the home insurance nightmares that can result from some of the over-the-top antics we often see. Here are some of the Christmas movies with the worst insurance nightmares:
National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation
The possibility of getting hurt or falling off the rood while hanging thousands of twinkle lights is an insurance nightmare itself. But once you add in all the other ways that people get hurt on the Griswold property (flammable sewage combined with a cigarette), you can see why it’s a liability nightmare.
The Santa Clause
Scott Calvin might have thought that the worst thing to happen when Santa Claus fell off his roof is that he became Father Christmas. However, it could have been much, much worse. What if Santa hadn’t disappeared, leaving only a suit behind? Calvin even mentions his homeowners insurance policy when talking about the man who slipped off his roof. If someone gets hurt on your property, it can turn into a home insurance nightmare.
Elf
He seems lovable, but Buddy the Elf offers a series of home insurance nightmares. From destroying furniture to damaging the home with the Christmas tree, he’s causing problems. This counts as breaking and entering, right? So all that damage could be claimed as related to burglary. But there might be limits if you accept Buddy into your home.
Lethal Weapon
This movie is set at Christmas, and includes home insurance nightmares galore. Property damage. Drugs in the home. There are a number of dramatic ways that things can go wrong during this Christmas time, and result in high costs that your insurance company might not cover.
How the Grinch Stole Christmas
It’s an insurance nightmare when someone steals your things. If you don’t have a home inventory, it can be hard to claim your stolen items with your homeowners insurance. With the Grinch around stealing presents, decorations, and other items, you’re going to need to fill out a mountain of paperwork if you want to recover the value of what was taken.
The Holiday
In this movie, two women swap homes in the hope of getting away and maybe even meeting someone new. But before you let someone else stay in your home, consider the insurance implications. What if your guest trashes your home or engages in some other activity that could cause problems?
Home Alone
Without a doubt, though, the biggest of all insurance nightmares in Christmas movies is Home Alone. Not only does this movie involve property damage, but there are liability issues as well. There are stories of burglars who sue homeowners for injuries they sustain – especially if the injuries were intentional and unnecessary. Everything that the burglars go through in Home Alone could be considered that way, so the McAllisters could be in for a legal nightmare.
As you get ready for the holidays, make sure you are careful about how your home is set up, and that you are safe with your decorations and with your heating options. You don’t want your home to turn into a real-life insurance nightmare.
