Winter Car Maintenance throughout the Season

December 23rd, 2013  |  Insurance

Most people understand the importance of having their vehicle serviced and installing their winter tires come November of each year. Getting your car winterized at the beginning of the winter driving season will prepare your vehicle, and it will also bring to light any potential issues that could become problems if they are not addressed.

However, winter car maintenance does not stop with a winterization service package at the beginning of the season. To ensure you vehicle is safe throughout the winter, you need to perform some self-checks. Here are some things that you can do to stay on top of things during the winter:

  • Replace your wiper blades if they are not working correctly or have been damaged.
  • Wash your vehicle regularly. This will get rid of the dirt and road salt that builds on the exterior of your vehicle, but more importantly, on the undercarriage, wheel wells, and engine.
  • If you notice something is not working correctly, have it inspected immediately, before it has the chance to fail while you are driving.
  • Don’t skip out on regularly scheduled oil change in the winter.

Even if you have a new vehicle, you never know when something could go wrong. Don’t take the risk, stay on top of vehicle maintenance during the winter. It’s better to be safe than sorry.

What do you do to ensure your car is properly maintained during the winter? Do you do anything unique? Do you do something that you would recommend to other drivers?
