Why it is important to use an MTO approved driving school

March 15th, 2013  |  Insurance

Many people make the assumption that all driving school are the same. But, the truth is that they are not. This is why it is important to sign up for driving lessons with a MTO approved driving school.

While there is no shortage of driving school to choose from, the truth is that there are many that either are not ministry approved or have had the approval from the MTO revoked.

There are two major benefits from using an MTO approved driving school. They include:

  1. The ability to take your G2 driving test within 8 months of receiving your G1
  2. Qualifying for a discount on your insurance premium

MTO approved driving school also ensure that you are receiving high quality driving instruction. To be MTO approved driving schools must offer a minimum of 40 hours of in class instruction and 20 hours of in car driving instruction. This ensures that you are receiving the proper amount of training no matter which MTO approved school you choose.

It is important not to just shop based on price when it comes to driving lessons. You need to receive high quality instruction to help you prepare for your road test and to establish good driving habits. Getting lessons from a driving school that is not MTO approved puts you at risk of not receiving enough training.

Take your time when weighing your driving school options. Select the best school for you and don’t just shop on price. Remember, you get what you pay for.

What driving schools would you recommend to other drivers? Why would you recommend them?
