Is Vehicle Technology a help or a hindrance?

September 24th, 2013  |  Insurance

Every year when the new models of cars hit the market one of the things that gets the most attention is the new technology that is used in the cars. New technology developments get a significant amount of attention at the auto shows and it is something that gets everyone in the auto industry talking.

However, while some new car features are great, there are others that many people would consider a hindrance to drivers, and some to the point where they could potentially be considered a hazard.

This situation brings up a very important question about the role of technology and its impact on vehicles, drivers, and road safety. This question is, “are vehicle technologies a help or a hindrance to drivers?”

Obviously, there are very good argument on both sides of the issue. New technologies have significantly changed the overall driving experience for the better. Cars are easier to operate, they are more comfortable, and they offer convenient features that make things easier for us.

But, some of these features also pose a threat to road safety. We all know how much of an issue distracted driving has become, and the addition of new technology features create additional distractions for drivers. While not all features are a distraction, it is hard to argue that in vehicle TVs, media centers, WI-FI and computer systems do not create an additional distraction to drivers.

What is your response to the question? Do you think that vehicle technology is a more of a help or hindrance to drivers?
