Top Items that are Stolen from Cars

November 19th, 2013  |  Insurance

With the holiday season quickly approaching, and with an increase in the number of people shopping, car thieves are gearing up and preparing to take advantage of motorists across the country. We are entering the time of year where car break-ins and auto theft hit their peak.

To prevent yourself from being a potential target for car thieves, it is important to understand what they are looking for so you can avoid the mistake of leaving these items in your car.

Here are some of the most stolen items from your vehicle this time of the year:

  • GPS systems
  • Cell phones, mobile devices, and laptops
  • Christmas gifts
  • Sun glasses and other accessories
  • Tires and rims
  • The change you leave in your car
  • Garage openers
  • CD’s
  • Your wallet and personal identification
  • Insurance papers and vehicle registration
  • Coats and clothing
  • Work tools
  • Car stereo

A thief will steal anything that is in your car, so it is important not to leave these items in your vehicle. If you must, put these items in your truck and out of plain sight. And, make sure that you lock your doors and use an anti-theft system, like a alarm, before you leave your vehicle unattended. It’s better to be safe than sorry.

Do you have a habit of leaving these things in your car that are in plain sight? Have you ever had your car broken into? How did they get into your car? What did they steal?
