Top 5 Travel Trends for 2015

January 22nd, 2015  |  Travel Insurance

We all know about beauty and fashion trends for 2015, but what about the year’s top travel trends? Let’s take a look at what you can expect to see in the world of travel in the coming year.

1. Travel meta-sites continue to grow. With more than half of all travel bookings happening online, it’s no surprise that travel companies are beefing up their websites, making it more possible to book all your travel needs online. In the next year, we expect to see a rise in travel meta-sites, like Kayak.com, where travellers can see results for the same query from a variety of different vendors and choose the one which offers them the best deal.

2. The rise of the private jet. There was a time when travelling with a private jet was relegated to millionaires and the glitterati. But nowadays, many private jet companies are trying to cater more and more to business travellers, even offering perks such as jet terminals with reduced security lines. As the pricing for renting a private jet continues to drop, expect to hear more and more people choosing this option.

3. Technology offerings will grow. Many hotel chains will now be offering a variety of options that are technology-based, such as the ability to check-in online, and updated apps that offer such services as room service orders or a “bot butler,” where you can order anything you need from toothpaste to towels.

4. Business class airfare to drop. Many airlines will be offering discounts and rewards programs that will make travelling in business class more affordable than ever.

5. Wi-Fi options. There will be a rise in new options for Wi-Fi, with hotel chains now offering free, slower Wi-Fi, as well as an option to buy Wi-Fi at a faster speed for an additional fee. So, depending on whether you are travelling for business or pleasure, you will have the option to decide what kind of Wi-Fi option best suits your needs.

As these trends grow, the travel landscape in 2015 will surely look different. Clearly, hotels and airlines are listening to the needs of their customers and trying to make travel—whether for business or for pleasure—feel even more like home and be an even more pleasant experience. Happy 2015 travels!
