Top 10 Great Day Long Road Trip Ideas for GTA Residents

Tired of doing the same thing every weekend? Are you itching to get out and experience something different for a change? Is there a place in Ontario that you haven’t been to in a while? Then perhaps it’s time to plan a day trip. 

If you live in the GTA, there is no shortage of great day long road trips that you could plan, and you could drive in virtually every direction. You could go up North to cottage country, head East toward Ottawa, or make the trip down the QEW toward the Niagara region. Your options are endless. All you have to do is figure out how far you want to drive. 

Here are 10 great road trips all within a couple ideas for residents in the GTA:

  1. Niagara Falls– This is perhaps one of the most obvious and most popular. With so much to do and see, Niagara Falls is the perfect option for the whole family. 
  2. Wasaga Beach– Love the beach? Then heading up to Wasaga for the day is a great option for you! 
  3. St Jacobs Market– If you are into farmers markets, this is the perfect road trip idea. Take a nice drive, get some fresh produce, and sample some amazing baked goods. 
  4. Stratford– A beautiful and historic city (and not just because Justin Bieber was born here) that is known for the Stratford Festival.
  5. Muskoka Cottage Country– Are you a fan of the outdoors? Why not drive up to cottage country for the day?
  6. Port Dover –Like the beach town scene? Port Dover has a great main strip, pier, happening beach and you can even stop in for some fresh lake perch for lunch.
  7. Collingwood– This is a beautiful and scenic drive around the escarpment and scenic caves. Plus, you can stop for dinner and eat at one of the many great restaurants in Collingwood. 
  8. Algonquin Park– Even though it’s a bit of a drive, it’s more than worth it. Pack a picnic lunch and spend the day getting back to nature. 
  9. Niagara on the Lake– Are you a wine lover? Consider taking a drive up to the Niagara region and check out some of the best wineries the province has to offer. 
  10. Elora– Check out one of Ontario’s best kept secrets and check out one of the province’s most beautiful villages.
