Tire Pressure Safety and Savings Tips

Maintaining the correct tire pressure is more important than you think. How harmful could a tire that needs a little air be, right? Not so fast. The reality is that if you are driving around on tires that are not properly inflated you could be not only be placing yourself at risk, you are also costing yourself more money.

Why tire pressure is important from a safety perspective

Driving around on improperly inflated tires is a safety issue:

  • They increase braking distance
  • They can result in more frequent blow outs and malfunctions
  • Drivers have less control
  • You will lose more tire tread when compared to properly inflated tires
  • They increase your chance of getting into an accident

Why tire pressure is important from a cost savings perspective

Properly inflated tires offer a number of cost benefits:

  • They will last longer, which reduces the number of times you have to replace your tires
  • You get better fuel economy, which will save you money on gas
  • You will be less prone to a blowout, which will save you money on repair costs

It is important to check your tire pressure on a regular basis. Sometimes all you need to do is a visual test to ensure that your tires look properly inflated. If you notice that a tire is losing air on a regular basis, then it is a good idea to get it checked out by your mechanic. It could be a sign that there is an issue.
