Tell your insurer about changes

June 14th, 2012  |  Auto Insurance

No one lives a life where everything stays the same all the time. Part of life is that things change on a regular basis. And, when things change, it often means getting into contact with the right people to make sure that they are on the same page and are aware of the changes in your life. Your insurance company is one such entity that needs to be aware of important changes in your life.

While many people tend to have a fear that if they call their insurance company and let them know about a change in their situation their rates will skyrocket, this couldn’t be further from the truth. Actually, in many cases, you might enjoy a new discount and see your rates go down. So, you need to contact both your home and auto insurance provider when anything changes.

Here are some of the instances of when you need to get into contact with your insurance provider. They include:

  • A change of address: Where you live and the type of home you live in has an impact on both your home and auto insurance rates.

  • Drivers on your vehicle: Whether you are adding, switching, or taking a driver off of your insurance, you need to call and update your provider.

  • Changes to your car: You should make your insurance company aware of any modifications to your car. And, obviously, you need to inform your insurance company if you buy a new vehicle or change the ownership in any way.

  • Changes to your home: Make sure to tell your insurance company about any renovation projects or additions to your home. Things like adding a new fence, a pool, or any other structure needs to be accounted for when it comes to your home insurance.

If you have anyquestionsabout your home or car, make sure that you contact your insurance company before moving forward.
