Some coverage options for Travel Insurance

September 22nd, 2011  |  Insurance

Travel Insurance should be part of your travel documents, especially if you are travelling long distances. While most don’t give it much thought for a cross boarder shopping trip to the United States, you should seriously consider travel insurance if you are taking a business trip or going on vacation.

A common misconception that people have is they assume that travel insurance is all the same. But, there are actually many different coverage options for this form of insurance. When you are looking at your options, you need to factor in your needs and compare them to the coverage that is being offered by insurers.

Here are some of the coverage options that are available through a travel insurance policy. In most cases, you can get a basic policy or a comprehensive package.

Basic coverage usually includes things such as:

  • Medical coverage
  • Emergency expenses such as ambulance and hospital stays
  • Accidental death coverage

Comprehensive coverage covers additional things such as:

  • Trip cancellation and trip cancellation coverage
  • Emergency evacuation
  • Flight and travel accident coverage
  • Replacement of travel documents
  • Loss or damage of baggage coverage

Before you purchase a policy make sure that you talk to your insurance broker about the coverage that is included. You need to know what you get with your policy. Never assume you have coverage or you could be put in a difficult situation.
