Ontario Drivers are Concerned about Auto Theft, but are not Taking Precautions
Do you know where the responsibility lies if your car is stolen? The truth is that if you think that you are completely covered by your insurance company if your car is stolen, you may be wrong. Now might be a good time to check in with your insurance company to make sure you have the right coverage in place.
While most drivers assume that the costs related to recovering their stolen vehicle are included in their insurance coverage, many are finding out that it will cost them money if their car is stolen.
All Ontario drivers are concerned about their car being stolen, but surprisingly, many people are not taking the necessary precautions to prevent it from happening.
Shockingly, there are many drivers who still admit to not even locking their car doors and some even leave their car with the keys still in the ignition, in addition to the many who do not have an anti-theft device installed in their vehicle.
Tips to protect your vehicle from theft
There are many different things that people can do to be proactive and help prevent their vehicle from being stolen. They include:
Always lock your vehicle, even if you will only be away from it for a few minutes. It only takes a few minutes for someone to take your car, especially if it is unlocked.
When purchasing a vehicle, make sure you check to see where it ranks on the most stolen vehicle list. If it is frequently stolen, you may want to reconsider your purchase.
Always park in well-lit and high traffic areas if possible.
Make sure that your vehicle has a sticker on it indicating that an alarm system is installed.
Never leave a spare key in your vehicle.
Avoid leaving high value items in plain sight in your vehicle.
Consider installing anti-theft gadgets such as “The Club” if you are very concerned about your vehicle being stolen.
Sometimes, no matter what you do and how many precautions you taken, your vehicle gets stolen. If it does, make sure that you have the right insurance coverage to protect you effectively.
