No Keys? No Problem, with Smart Lock
Smartphones can be used for pretty much everything these days. From ordering your groceries online, to tracking your fitness or booking travel, there isn’t a whole lot that you can’t use your phone for anymore. And the list of things that smartphones are capable of continues to grow.
Now, you can save yourself the time and worry of house keys with a new Smart Lock developed by tech company August.
The Smart Lock works through the use of Bluetooth technology, and allows you to control who can come and go through your house—and when—all remotely.
The Smart Lock can be installed on your already-existing door lock and is compatible with most locks on the market. The Smart Lock is also compatible with most deadbolts and requires no additional wiring. Since it requires no wiring, it runs completely separately from your home’s electrical system, running instead on AA batteries. The app will prompt you when it is time to replace the batteries (anywhere from 6 months to a year, depending on use); however, your key will still work even if the batteries have died.
The program allows you to issue keys, and therefore access to your home, all through the use of your cellular phone, and all within minutes. You can even program certain keys to be good only for a certain time period. So, for example, perhaps you issue a key to your family members that work at any time; however, you issue one to the woman who cleans your home that is only good for a certain time every week.
You will also have the ability to keep a log of who has used their keys and when. This can come in particularly handy if you are travelling, or have young kids who are going to be, say, coming home from school on their own. Things like worrying about letting contractors in and out, and ensuring the house is locked are now going to be a thing of the past.
The program also has safety settings in place in the event that you lose your phone so that you can stop others from having access to your house. You can remove access remotely, and the phone uses many of the same security settings that online banking has.
More than anything, the Smart Lock is simple to use and user-friendly. This is yet another example of technology making our lives easier!
What do you think? Would you use Smart Lock? Why or why not?
