Landscape and Home Insurance

April 9th, 2013  |  Insurance

When people think about home insurance they usually focus on the contents of their home and the physical structure, and not necessary the actual landscape of their property.

The landscape of your property is a large component of what you own. And when you think about how much money you invest into things such as trees, shrubs, lawn care and other decorative items that you add to your property, it can add up.

The truth is that many people assume that this is not considered part of your insurance coverage, while for others; it simply just doesn’t enter their mind.

While most don’t realize it, your landscape is actually part of your homeowner’s insurance policy. But, make sure you check to get an accurate assessment of what is and is not covered. As always, if you have questions just call your insurance broker and they will be able to help you receive clarification.

This coverage comes in handy, especially if you experience damage to your landscape. If you invest a good amount of money into the look of your yard, you need to make sure you get compensated if a storm or vandals cause damage. Plus, you are also covered if a tree on your property causes damage to other people’s property or vehicle.

Were you aware that your landscape was protected as part of your home insurance policy? Have you ever had to make a claim for landscape damage? If so, we want to hear about it.
