Its Car Safety Month: Is your car road worthy?
Since it is car safety month here in Ontario, what better time to talk about how safe your vehicle is, right? Developed by Car Care Canada, Car Safety Month is meant to create awareness about helping consumers make safe and effective decisions about their cars. And, with the winter on its way, there is no better time to get your car in peak condition before it is put to the test by the brutal Canadian winter.
When it comes to car safety one of the main questions that drivers should ask is; “Is your car road worthy?” And, while most people would immediately say “yes”, there are also lots of people that drive every day across Ontario in vehicles that are at risk of breaking down at any time.
While most people would immediately envision a car that is falling apart when posed with this question, there are many minor things that drivers need to stay on top of to ensure their car is road worthy, especially with winter on the way.
The following are some questions that drivers need to ask themselves when assessing the road worthiness of their vehicle:
Have you noticed any sounds from your vehicle that are not normal? If yes, did you have your car checked out?
Is your car battery in good condition?
Have you had an oil change recently? If no, do you have one scheduled in the near future?
Do your tires have adequate tread? Are you planning on installing winter tires?
Do you have any body damage? If yes, does it have an impact on your vehicles ability to run properly? Does it pose any safety risks?
Do you have any cracks in your windshield? If yes, are you planning on getting it fixed before it becomes a more serious issue?
These are questions that need to be taken seriously by drivers. If you suspect anything is wrong with your vehicle then you are better off getting it check out, even if it is going to cost you a few bucks. You can never be too cautious when it comes to the condition of your vehicle, especially with the cold weather that is ahead. No need to put anyone at risk when you don’t have to.
