Insurance for your Cottage

May 20th, 2013  |  Insurance

Having the right insurance in place for your cottage is very important. Whether you spend the summer there or rent it out, you need to be properly protected with the right insurance policy. With cottage season now in full swing, it is a good time to review your cottage policy.

Just like with other types of insurance, it is a good idea to review your policy on a yearly basis. Things change over the course of the year and your insurance needs may change. You could also qualify for a discount and if you don’t review your coverage; you could be missing out.

Insurance for your cottage is very similar to home insurance. But, there are some specific policy elements that you need to be aware of. For example, there may be certain things that are covered in your home insurance, but are not covered for your cottage policy.

Your coverage needs can vary widely depending on the style of cottage you own, where it is located and how you use it. So, the best piece of advice is to talk to your insurance broker about how to best draft a policy that will provide you with the coverage you need for your cottage. They will be able to provide you with a number of options to consider. Never make assumptions about your coverage or you could find yourself in a precarious situation.

Do you own a cottage? What is your best insurance tip for people that own a cottage?
