HUB Insurance Hunter | Accident Benefits Coverage In Alberta

September 26th, 2011  |  Insurance

The amount of auto insurance coverage that you are required to carry by law varies based on where you live in Canada. This is the same for the accident benefits coverage that is included in your car insurance policy.

The following is the minimum amount of accident benefits coverage that Alberta drivers must purchase as part of their auto insurance policy:

  • $200, 000 third party liability
  • $50, 000 in medical payments per person
  • $5,000 funeral expense benefit
  • The right to sue for pain and suffering and economic loss in excess of no-fault benefits

Keep in mind that you can add additional accident benefits coverage to your auto insurance policy in Alberta for a fee. The amount of coverage that you need or feel comfortable with could exceed the minimum that is required by law. However, adding accident benefits coverage will increase your auto insurance rates.

If you are not sure about what level of accident benefit coverage you should include in your policy as an Alberta driver, talk to an insurance broker, like HUB Insurance Hunter, to discuss your options. We can also provide you with an insurance quote based on the amount of coverage you are considering so you will be able to see how it impacts your current auto insurance rates.
