While looking at listings online and setting up appointments to view homes in person is a good start, if you really want to find the home of your dreams, you need to take notes, have a list, and talk with a real estate agent about what you are looking for. This will help you better define what your dream home is and what it includes in terms of amenities, location, and other variables.

You also need to know what you like and know what you don’t like. This will help you to rule out homes more quickly and help you narrow the endless number of listing online. Being able to compare homes to a list of must haves helps to quantify your search. It is also a good idea to have a list of things you do not want, and potential deal breakers.
