Hot or Cold? Examining the Pros of Warm and Cold Weather Vacation Options

November 13th, 2014  |  Travel Insurance

November is a busy month for travel planning. It’s a month where many Canadians start taking winter vacations, and even more Canadians are spending time exploring their travel options for the busy travel season after the New Year.

One of the biggest questions you will have to answer is where to go. Do you want to head south to somewhere warm and sunny? Or do you want to stay north and plan a cold winter vacation? There are pros and cons to both options, and preference is really up to you. Your options are outlined below:

The Pros of Warm Winter Vacation Destinations

  • Get a break from winter: Once January rolls around, most people are ready for a break from the cold weather, winter driving, and shoveling.
  • Experience a new culture: Visiting a warm weather destination not only allows you to soak up some sun, it also allows you to experience a new culture.
  • Enjoy the benefits of all inclusive vacations: Spending a week not having to worry about anything is the perfect way to de-stress, relax, and enjoy a week away from daily life.
  • Travel options for all budgets: With thousands of all inclusive vacation destinations to choose from in countries around the world, there is a travel option for all budgets. The important thing to keep in mind is to shop based on value and not price alone. Make sure you do your research and read reviews on the resorts you are considering before you book.

The Pros of Cold Weather Winter Vacations

There are also many pros to booking a cold weather winter vacation, including:

  • More local options: One of the main benefits of winter vacations is that you won’t have to travel as far. There are dozens of local cold weather vacations ideas, many of which are only a few hours away.
  • Do something different: If you are getting tired of the all-inclusive scene (If that’s even possible) booking a cold weather vacation is a great alternative. Visiting a hot spring, taking an Alaskan cruise, or skiing are all great options.
  • There is more than just ski vacations: There is a lot more to do than just go skiing when planning a cold weather winter vacation. There are countless winter resorts, cabins, chalets, and big city trips that are perfect for winter travel. How about New York on New Year’s Eve?
  • Save money: Winter is the perfect time to head over to Europe and the UK.  Since it is considered off season for travel, you can do that European trip at a much more affordable rate.
