Home Insurance: Weather Damage

September 24th, 2011  |  Insurance

A main form of protection that is included in your home insurance policy is protection from weather damage. Storms and floods can wreak havoc on your home and cause thousands of dollars of damage. Sometimes no matter how prepared you may be, you can't prevent the weather from causing damage.

The type of weather damage insurance coverage you need will be dependent on where you live and the type of threats that exist in your area. For example, you won’t need coverage that protects you from an avalanche if you live in the prairies.  If you are planning on moving, make sure you look into the weather conditions in the area and talk to your insurance company about your coverage needs as it could change once you move.

When it comes to your policy, in general, you are covered for things like damage that is cause by lightning, wind, falling debris and water damage as a result of heavy rain. However, there is also optional weather damage coverage options that you may want to include in your policy. Options include coverage for things like freezing pipes, landslides and other weather threats that are present in your area.

If you are not sure what you should include in your home insurance policy when it comes to protection from weather damage, talk to one of our insurance brokers at HUB Insurance Hunter. We would be happy to answer any of your questions and help you find the best possible home insurance policy for your specific situation.
